The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have re-signed star linebacker, Simoni Lawrence.
The two-time East Division’s most outstanding defensive player (2016, 2017) and three-time CFL all-star (2015, 2016, 2017) has played four seasons with the Tiger-Cats after initially signing with the team as a free agent on February 10, 2014. The 30-year old Florida A&M product also won a Grey Cup championship with the team in 2014.
Lawrence was given a CFL all-star and an East Division all-star for the third time in his career.
Lawrence has appeared in 69 regular-season games for the Tiger-Cats through four CFL seasons, making 86 defensive tackles, 30 special teams tackles, 15 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one interception. He also holds the CFL record for most consecutive games named a defensive player of the week with nine.
Before joining the CFL, Lawrence spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings of the NFL and several teams in the AFL and AF2, including the Tampa Bay Storm, Orlando Predators, New Orleans VooDoo and Spokane Shock.
In eight campaigns with the Ticats (2013-21), he has played 127 games and leads the club in total tackles (609) and defensive tackles (602). He is 6’1, 231lbs, a native of Upper Darby, Pa., known for his trash-talking habits.
